Meet the Waukee Public Library
The Waukee Public Library applied for a 2019 Dallas County Foundation grant with the goal of providing a larger variety of programming during the children’s storytime and teen programs by incorporating technology and music. The new equipment they planned on purchasing would allow the library staff to project words to songs and rhymes on the screen to increase parent participation during traditional storytimes, without having to rely on printed material.
After careful consideration by our grant committee, the Waukee Public Library was granted $$$ to complete their project. (This project was granted funds in conjuction with the Grow Greene County foundation.) With these funds, they purchased 2 custom-built media cabinets, 2 TVs, 1 DVD player, Storytime Room kids stables and chairs, 4 iPads with cases, 2 Apple TVs and a projector.
Now, though the funds provided by the Dallas County Foundation/Grow Greene County 2019 grant, the use of technology in their storytimes has allowed them to be able to use digital books, music, interactive games, learning apps and educational videos during library programs and events. The feedback from the library patrons has been positive and many are excited to attend programs with music and technology.
